Romans 1:16
The Apostle Paul was a learned man, a Roman citizen, a Pharisee, and a Hebrew of Hebrews. Had he continued in his former path, he would have become someone important among the Jews. But after he encountered the Lord Jesus Christ, his life changed completely. He left everything behind, devoting himself to spreading the gospel. He traveled far and wide, planting churches and enduring rejection and hatred in many places. He suffered frequent lashings and imprisonment, and we know the price he paid with his life.
Why did he endure all of this? Because he knew the One he was following. He understood the power of the gospel.
What about us today? How well do we know the gospel? Are we sometimes hesitant to show our faith, even among friends? Paul never was. He boldly shared the gospel everywhere he went.
Often, we feel ashamed or reluctant because we do not know Christ well enough. We grumble because we haven’t done enough or understood enough of the gospel’s power.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes” (Rom. 1:16).
