Hiding sin from God

Just the other day, my son took my phone and was playing with it without my knowledge. As I walked towards him, he hid my phone because he knew that I did not permit him to play with my phone. But I knew everything he did and I was annoyed and angry just because he was trying to hide it.

Then, a thought struck me: The LORD knows everything we do and think. We think that He does not know our sinful acts or thoughts and we try to hide them from Him. But He knows, and would really be unhappy with us when we attempt to hide them.

Ezekiel 8:12 says, “Mortal, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, each in his room of images? For they say, ‘The LORD does not see us, the LORD has forsaken the land.’”

Such people were condemned in Isaiah 29:15, “Ha! You who hide a plan too deep for the LORD whose deeds are in the dark, and who say, ‘Who sees us? Who knows us?”

The Israelites also did it and the LORD was angry with them. 2 Kings 17:9 says, “The people of Israel secretly did things that were not right against the LORD their God.”

Proverbs 28:13 tells us, “No one who conceals transgressions will prosper, but one who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.” Confessing our sins is what we are asked to do.

Psalm 32:5 also says, “Then I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not hide my iniquity; I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,’ and you forgave the guilt of my sin.” What a wonderful God we serve.

1 John 1:9-10 says, “If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” We see many passages about the need to confess our sins. Let us follow them and confess so that our sins may be forgiven (Jam. 4:8; 5:16; Lev. 5:5; Acts 3:19; Rom 10:9; 2 Sam. 12:13; Ps. 66:18; 69:5).
